Little Moments

This little pink paper crane — no doubt made from a Post-It, was given to me by an Uber driver about a year ago. His father had just died, and we spent the long drive from the airport talking about death and life and everything in between. We arrived at my house long before either one of us wanted our conversation to be over. I was halfway out of the car when he stopped me.

“I want to give you SOMEthing,” he said, handing me the crane that had perched on the dash during our drive. “This talk meant so much to me,” he said.

From dash to desk, this crane now sits on the edge of a very packed shelf above one of my workspaces, reminding me of that meaningful conversation and about how every encounter can matter when you are open-hearted and open-minded.
